Doctors and the public in general should direct their concerns to the insurance industry about medical malpractice insurance. The Center for Justice and Democracy measured the increase in insurance rates from 2000-2004 against the amount of money paid out in malpractice claims. During that period, malpractice insurance rates went up 120%. This is one reason why they are screaming so loudly. However, the amount of money paid in claims during that same period went up only 5.7%, about the same rate as inflation.
